About Century
Century Capital Management, the Century Funds’ Adviser, provides investment management services to individuals and institutions through mutual funds and separate accounts. The firm traces its origins to 1928 and the founding of Century Shares Trust, one of the oldest mutual funds in the U.S.
For more than 60 years, Century Shares Trust was managed internally by the Fund’s Board of Trustees, which delegated day-to-day responsibilities to a managing trustee. In 1992, Allan W. Fulkerson, a member of the Board of Trustees and managing trustee, founded Century Capital Management, primarily for the purpose of externalizing the management of the Trust. In 2004, Mr. Fulkerson retired and ownership of the firm was transitioned to two of the firm’s Managing Directors, Alexander L. Thorndike and Davis R. Fulkerson.
Today, the firm’s investment principles remain consistent with Century Shares Trust’s original charter. Since the 1930s, Century has emphasized the importance of fundamental research. The Trust’s 1934 prospectus noted that “successful analysis of these companies requires specialized knowledge… Statistical information is supplemented by personal investigation in estimating the character of managements and the value of intangibles.” We continue to believe that in-depth, original research on each company, its competitors, and the industry in which it operates allows us to make better investment decisions. Our intensive research process includes both quantitative analysis and qualitative evaluation, as we seek to uncover growth companies at attractive valuations for our shareholders.
